Activities
Sym-2008-12: Mechanics and Biomimetics of Biomaterials & Animal Locomotion
Public time: 2008-5-31
BICTAM Symposium on Mechanics and Biomimetics of Biomaterials & Animal Locomotion
1. Theme of the Conference
Scientists have increasingly turning their attentions to searching for inspirations from the splendid living world in order to solve various challenging problems of technologically importance. Rapid advances in observation techniques and computational ability will make it a reality to understand, at different time and space scales, the structures and properties of natural materials as well as the complicated behaviors of swimming, flying and running of animals. The aim of this workshop is to join internationally famous experts to exchange and explore the recent developments in the study of mechanics and biomimetics of natural biomaterials and animal locomotions, a subject of great scientific interest.
2. Topics
Structures and properties of natural biomaterials;
Multiscale modeling of natural biomaterials;
Biomimetic design and fabrications of novel materials;
Biomechanics of animal flying and swimming;
Biomechanics of animal terrestrial locomotion;
Biomimetics of micro-sized air vehicles.
3. Dates
The symposium is possibly to take place on December 9–12, 2008 at Sanya,
4. Number of Participants
About 30 lecturers will be invited representing Mechanics and Biomimetics of Biomaterials & Animal Locomotion. They will give 30-minute oral presentations from their complementary standpoints, in such a way as to stimulate debate and arouse the active involvement of young teachers and students. A few scientists from Asian and the Pacific will be invited to give lectures.
About 20 young teachers and students at postgraduate or research level will be selected to audit all of the 20 oral presentations and participate in academic discussions.
